Fritz Rift Lake Cichlid Salt
- Special blend of salts for African cichlids
- Raises GH (or general hardness)Β
- Includes probiotics to increase beneficial bacteria
Fritz Rift Lake Cichlid Probiotic Salt is a special blend of salts formulated to replicate the natural habitats of African cichlids, These essential trace elements raise the GH or general hardness of the water to help your cichlids thrive and breed. The following GH ranges are recommended for:
β Lake Tanganyika: 140β250 ppm (8β14 degrees) GH
β Lake Malawi: 70β140 ppm (4β8 degrees) GH
β Lake Victoria: 50β110 ppm (3β6 degrees) GH
Probiotics are also added to increase and diversify the population of beneficial bacteria that benefit your fish's health and help reduce nitrates and phosphates in the water. For best results, use with Fritz Rift Lake Cichlid Buffer to raise the pH and KH (or carbonate hardness).
Start with the following dosage for every 10 U.S. gallons (37.85 liters) of water:
β Lake Tanganyika: Use 11 g (1.5 tsp)
β Malawi: Use 5.5 g (3/4 tsp)
β Victoria: Use 3.6 g (1/2 tsp)
Use the amount indicated for the lake you are wanting to simulate, and mix the salt in a separate container of dechlorinated water before adding it to the aquarium. Test the GH using Aquarium Co-Op Multi-Test Strips. Initially, add this dosage amount daily until the desired GH is reached and maintained. Use as required to maintain the GH, usually every 2β3 weeks or after a water change.
Notes:
β Jar size: 1.25 lb (567 g)
β If your aquarium water has evaporated and the water line has dropped, add normal, dechlorinated tap water without any salt to top off the tank. Then measure the GH to see if you need to add more cichlid salt.
β If you accidentally overdose too much salt, measure the GH, observe the livestock for distress, and perform small water changes if needed.
